The rambling message detailed his obsession with Lennon's murder, and Foster, and lays out his intentions to make "some kind of statement". In Hinckley's hotel room, police officers later found a copy of The Catcher In the Rye along with a cassette tape he had recorded on New Year's Eve, while drinking peach brandy alone in his room. Nobody was killed, but Reagan and three other men were wounded - a Secret Service agent, a policeman, and White House press secretary.Īs Hinckley was led away by police, he asked one of the officers if he thought that evening's Academy Awards ceremony would be postponed – which it was. As Reagan exited the building and walked towards a waiting limousine, he fired six shots at the President, one of which ricocheted off the side of the limo and hit him in the chest. Two hours later, he milled around the Hilton Hotel, and waited as the President made a speech inside. Jodie, I'm asking you to please look into your heart and at least give me the chance, with this historical deed, to gain your respect and love." "This letter is being written only an hour before I leave for the Hilton Hotel. "I've got to do something now to make you understand, in no uncertain terms, that I am doing all of this for your sake! By sacrificing my freedom and possibly my life, I hope to change your mind about me. The final paragraph explains his twisted reasoning for the shooting: "I will admit to you that the reason I'm going ahead with this attempt now is because I just cannot wait any longer to impress you. Travelling to Washington, he booked a hotel room and wrote a letter to Foster, in which he references leaving dozens of poems, letters and love messages under the door of her college dorm. Salinger's The Catcher In the Rye but will also help many to understand what has happened." Related articles In all caps, he wrote: "It is my sincere belief that presenting this written statement will not only stimulate the reading of J.D. In early February, 1981, Mark David Chapman wrote a statement in ballpoint point on a yellow legal pad and sent it to the New York Times. Caulfield rallied against "phonies" and saw society as being a broken place where adults lose the innocence they once had as children.Ĭhapman's copy of the book, which he was still reading as he was arrested, contained his own handwritten words on the inner cover: "This is my statement." WHAT DRIVES A KILLER? When police came to arrest Chapman, he was doing something that shocked officers to their core – calmly sitting outside the Dakota reading a copy of The Catcher In the Rye.Īlthough Lennon was his target, Chapman's larger obsession was Holden Caulfield, the disgruntled narrator of J.D.

You know how we keep saying there's too much TV out there? Well, one of the advantages to that is that you don't have to watch every new show that comes out. I know that, but I'm still writing this anyway. Watch other shows.Īnd yes, I'm writing this fully aware that there are people who will read this, decide to watch for themselves, and then will track me down on Twitter to tell me I'm some variety of oversensitive baby, and that the show isn't as bad as I'm making it out to be. This is less a review and more a public service announcement: Just don't do it. But instead, I denied myself such pleasures to focus on this core message: If you watch Clickbait, well, you were warned. Here's how seriously I take warning you away from this show - I take no pleasure in writing pans like this, so I originally considered writing this whole review as a joke about how Vinny Chase's recent career choices have been really bad, because I am low-key obsessed with the show Entourage and love to goof on it and Adrian Grenier. It's so bad, you really should just stay away, because not only is the initial taste pretty bad, the aftertaste is worse, and it lingers. Put it another way: You know how sometimes you'll taste something so bad that you instinctually look around for someone else to share that gross taste with? "It's so bad, you gotta try this?" Clickbait isn't like that. There's something intrinsically nasty and mean about this show's outlook on the world, and while it does contain something resembling a central thesis about how the Internet has fractured the ways in which we connect with each other, it's not exactly essential messaging. It is an unpleasant show built on a semi-compelling mystery, and yes, if you watch to the end the full mystery will be unveiled, but while you'll know what happened, you won't feel good about it. However, while there are some bright spots to Clickbait, they do not justify the overall experience of watching the show. But let me be explicitly clear about this: It is very rare that I will say "do not watch this show," whether it be to a friend in casual conversation or to readers in print, because key to my passion for scripted entertainment is the belief that there is redeeming value in pretty much everything. There's some strong acting from the ensemble, with Kazan and Gabriel in particular really carrying the material. RELATED: 'Clickbait' Ending Explained: What Happened to Nick (and Why) (A successful strategy towards keeping a mystery captivating these days is to basically change what the core mystery happens to be on an episode-by-episode basis, something which Clickbait does nimbly.) However, it comes from such a fundamentally nasty place that while you might get hooked on what's happening, by the end of the season you'll just feel bad about having watched it. It might even said to be captivating, if only by virtue of the fact that the fundamental mystery is well-plotted and evolved in clever ways over the course of the eight episodes. It's a fundamentally competent season of television, on the very basic level of successfully telling a coherent story. The new Netflix thriller Clickbait is not either of those things. Meanwhile, there is the enjoyably bad television that happily crosses the line into camp, where the basic experience of watching and poking fun provides enough entertainment to justify the show's existence. There are the ineptly made shows, the ones where you wonder if anyone involved had ever sat down to watch an episode of anything ever. Take a look at the first trailer in the player above or on YouTube.Any television enthusiast knows that when it comes to bad shows, there's a wide spectrum of "bad" possible. Ian Pirie, Kate Bracken and the always great Tony Curran also appear in the film.Ĭalibre has its world premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival on 22 June before its global release on Netflix on 29 June, where it’ll be available around the world. A deeply moral film, this atmospheric, slow burn thriller sees the friends forced to make some tough choices as the weekend of bonding and hunting turns tragic.Īs well as those classic survival films by Boorman and Hill, there are hints of Straw Dogs, An American Werewolf in London and Wake in Fright in this debut feature, with the thrills combined with an expressive use of the evocative Scottish landscape. Rising star Jack Lowden – fresh from playing Tom Hardy’s wingman in Dunkirk and Morrissey in England is Mine – stars as a soon-to-be father being dragged north by his old school pal (a flinty Martin McCann) for a weekend of hunting and too many IPA and Laphroaig chasers. Others want to be able to pack it up and bring it with them wherever they go. Some people want to set up their court in one location and leave it there for years to come. Of course, if you want to play volleyball in your pool, you will want a net like the pool volleyball net from GoSports, which is designed specifically for this environment. If you prefer beach volleyball, a net set that has a wider base such as the Vermont Portable Volleyball Set would be ideal. If you are setting up your court in the grass, for example, then traditional poles for supports and guy lines for stability may be the perfect option. The location where you plan on playing the game will make a big difference in which net is right for you. In most cases, serious players will want to purchase a premium net, and those who are looking for a more casual experience can opt for an option that is less expensive or easier to move. Of course, serious players are also going to want to make sure the net is regulation size and height so they can get an authentic volleyball experience. In addition, the net needs to be tight and stable so that it does not fall in the middle of a game. As you know, the net can really take a beating when skilled players are spiking the ball, so it needs to be able to absorb the impact without ripping. If you are a serious volleyball player, you will need to get a net that is able to stand up to more aggressive play. Consider the following things to help you decide which net is right for you. This is because the way you plan on using the net will have a significant impact on which one is the best choice. When reading through our top 10 list, it is important to keep in mind that the net that we rank #1 may not be perfect in your situation. It is not possible to enter text on the command line into the executed program now. The result is shown only after the execution is finished. An interactive input element is created when your code snippets reads expects user input. After the execution the result of the execution is showed. Clicking them results in the code of the block being executed. The plugin adds a 'run' button for code blocks in supported languages. The code under exception inspection is enclosed in a try block. This plugin allows you to execute code snippets in code blocks in your notes. In this example this code simply throws an exception if there are no command-line arguments specified when the program is run. A throw expression accepts an expression (in this case, an unnamed object of the class invalid_argument), which is passed as an argument to the exception handler. Invalid_argument is a standard library exception class defined in the header file stdexcept. The constructor for the class takes a string argument, which can later be accessed by calling the what() member function of the exception object passed to the exception handler. The exception handler is declared with the catch keyword immediately after the closing brace of the try block. The syntax for catch is similar to a regular function with one parameter. The type of this parameter is very important, since the type of the argument passed by the throw expression is checked against it, and only in the case that they match is the exception caught by that handler. In the example above, if no command line arguments are specified, the exception is thrown and program control is transferred to the catch handler block that matches the data type invalid_argument. An error message is printed and then the program continues execution after the try-catch structure, not after the throw statement that threw the exception. If at least one argument is specified after the program name when the program is run, then no exception is thrown and the argument's value is printed. The catch block is skipped entirely and the program continues execution after the try-catch structure. Multiple handlers (i.e., catch expressions) can be chained each one with a different parameter type. Only the handler whose argument type matches the type of the exception specified in the throw statement is executed. The underlying issue turned out to be pretty interesting - more details below. Hi all - I’m happy to announce that we’ve just released Texture Tools Exporter 2021.1.1, which should solve the last aspect of this (without a need for a workaround). Could this be the reason for what you’re seeing? For instance, if you export from Photoshop to a PNG file and then convert to DDS using the standalone exporter, do you get the same result?Īlthough we aimed to have the same feature set as the legacy version, the internal image processing of the tool has been almost completely rewritten, so it’s surprising that you would be seeing the same problem with both versions, given how different they are internally. The Photoshop API has also changed in that time. It’s interesting that you note that the behavior is the same as the legacy version on Photoshop CS6, as the Photoshop version of the tool specifies Photoshop Creative Cloud (and testing was done on CC 20). I’m only human - there could still be flaws in the implementation! However, I’ve tested this with batches of images with zero-alpha pixels in both the standalone and Photoshop versions, and can confirm it works on those images. We fixed this issue in 2020.1.3 by using unpremultiplied alpha internally, and implemented an interesting trick to try to maintain colors when premultiplied alpha is enabled. If you read the messages above, I explain how and why this information loss occurred with zero-alpha pixels in the new version as a side effect of internal premultiplied alpha conversion. Photoshop CC)? You may also want to check that the “Premultiplied Alpha Blending (Alpha is Transparency)” box is unchecked when exporting images. So in some sense, it reads a copy that has already been flattened and already has the alpha channel selected.Ĭould you check in the About box to make sure you’re using version 2020.1.3, and not version 2020.1.2, and can you check to see if you see the same thing on a supported version of Photoshop (i.e. This works in the standalone exporter, because the standalone exporter reads a pre-flattened copy of the image with transparency that Photoshop stores in the PSD file (in most cases). So the solution is to flatten the image first. But for this file, Photoshop won’t let you select all of the channels at once without flattening the image, probably because the windows tint layer is the only layer with an alpha channel (which you can see by selecting the alpha channel, and then going back to the Layers pane and seeing which layers are highlighted red). My guess is that when the alpha channel isn’t selected, Photoshop only sends the red, green, and blue channels to the plugin, ignoring the alpha channel. OK, I think I figured it out! It seems to be a quirk in Photoshop - the solution is to flatten the image, then shift-select the alpha channel in addition to the RGB channels in Photoshop before exporting to DDS, like this: If you are not using the above application version or greater, you must upgrade your application to obtain support. The current application release version is:Ĭheck the version of the application you are using onedrive -version and ensure that you are running either the current release or compile the application yourself from master to get the latest version. Only the current application release version or greater is supported.
